Okay so those of you new here (and a few who I’ve spoken to before) will probably be wondering who the hell I am and where I come from etc. So here’s the short version (the long one taking at present 32 years, 3 months and 4 days to tell, approximately).
I was born in a small village of Leicestershire in 1977. I was born at home.
1980′s the family relocated to Norfolk and as such I’m more of a bumpkin than most Midlanders can manage. I also feel more at home and settled in Norfolk than I do where I live now, back in the Midlands.
Family wise I grew up with both parents, a sister and a dog, out of that lot the dogs have both died (I out lasted the first a number of years ago) as has my mother (strangely the second dog whent soon after), despite that blow I think I’ve been spoilt with my family. MBTI wise it goes father ENTJ, sister ENFJ and mother ISFJ, I have no idea of their enneagrams. Anyhoo, based on the level of conversation which I got, each one was probably more intelligent and insightful than the average. This, I think, spoiled me however as I have never since gotten comfortable with most people as they are by comparison closed minded and short sighted (I’m sorry if this sounds increadibly arrogant but if I said I thought my family was anything but the best I’d consider myself a traitor).
Now a days I have my own house, my own car (yipee) and my own lifestyle. I know that some were expecting “my own family” to finish that off but unless you count a score of roleplaying friends who infrequently require baby sitting then no I have no family being built. I’m happy with that. Sure my SO would like kids some days but then others I doubt she could stand the thought of it.
I’m still in the same job I started almost ten years ago. It seems my lot for the moment to do CAD designs for a small engineering company and trust me it sounds a whole lot more interesting than it actually is though I’m thinking of trying to build myself a custom PC case so I guess all that time designing may come into use finally… though the free copy of Turbo CAD I’ve got is certainly not as intuitive as the AutoCAD I use at work and no where near the level of Solid Edge (a modelling program I occasionally get to use and love!).
To change my lot I’m currently struggling with trying to study for an MCSE, CCNA and CompTIA-S. All those accronyms would set me up as a propper employable geek but my determination flagged a while back and I’m trying to deny my own nature and ignore my thoughts that it’s all a waste of time. The only thing motivating me is the stability and oppotunities which the increased wages would bring… that ten year job hasn’t seen a decent wage rise once and yes I know, I really need a new job.
Oh yeah, I’ll get murderised if I don’t remember to include this, I’m married now (sorry girls). It was never something that I felt I needed to do and I’d still say it’s not made much difference to me though the wedding day was a much more positive experience than I could have hopped for (my face ached from smiling that day and I think I surprised many people with a genuine hug). I said at the time (and believed) that I’d agreed to go through the whole wedding thing because of a couple of my friends who got married in Las Vegas the preceeding year (or is that two?) and made it all look so easy and relaxed. Let’s just say their picture was innaccurate but I enjoyed it anyway.
Oh and how about this for weird, I thought that being as my then fiancee like the film Notting Hill that we could have “She” as the slow dance or as an important piece of music… she doesn’t like it! No accounting for some folk. Anyhow we ended up walking out to “We have all the time in the world” by Louis Armstrong and just for giggles had Toccata in D Minor playing for the signing. It was wonderous to see all those faced distended in confusion as they discussed “they do know this is like vampire music don’t they?”
My contribution to the day since the idea of paintballing whilst gokarting for the service was resoundingly rejected.
I’ll be updating this when I can be bothered. Kind of like an overview of the blog.
